B.C.’s civilian police watchdog was deployed to Surrey on Monday, following a collision that left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries.
The crash happened around 3 a.m. PT, near 96 Avenue and King George Boulevard.
The Surrey Police Service (SPS) said a police vehicle was involved in a crash with a pickup truck “that subsequently resulted in a pedestrian being struck.”
The driver of the other vehicle was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.
In a news release, the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO) said SPS officers were attempting to stop the truck at the time.

“A collision involving the pickup truck and a police vehicle subsequently occurred,” the IIO said.
“The driver failed to stop. A short time later, the pickup truck was involved in a collision with a concrete SkyTrain barrier.”
The IIO’s mandate is to investigate all police-involved incidents that result in serious harm or death, regardless of whether there is an allegation of wrongdoing.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has video relevant to the investigation is asked to contact the IIO at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
