Tom Pidcock has won a few big races in his day. The Olympic cross country mountain bike race, twice, and a little race up Alpe d’Huez. Plus many a cyclocross race and a Classic or two. The Brit’s also taken on a few cross-discipline challenges, set up via his sponsor Red Bull. Most recently, that invovled a climbing challenge against trail runner Tom Evans.
Pidcock’s made some pretty wild claims about his running speed in the past, but opted for a mountain bike for this race. With a steep climb full of wet rocks, that may not have been the wisest choice. Even for the reigning mountain bike world champion, it’s more of a challenge than expected.
Watch how the race unfolds below:
Runner versus mountain biker, it turns out, is a surprisingly competitive race. But Pidcock is a dual-discipline athlete.
In his last random challenge, he switched bikes, and directions on the mountian, against French multi-time world champion Loic Bruni. Bruni on a downhill bike and Pidcock on a road bike to see who could make it down the mountain fastest. This one is a fair bit more exciting to watch, in our opinion.
