Along with the films, there’ll be industry events for aspiring freaky filmmakers.
The Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival (VHS) is nearly a decade old and watching films other nine year olds really shouldn’t.
This October, the annual festival celebrating the horror genre is bringing five days of screenings, screamings and events featuring 15 feature films to the old Tinseltown theatre (now Cineplex Odeon International Village Cinemas).
This year it’ll feature a special presentation of Trick ‘r Treat (which was shot in and around Vancouver).
“Leading the festival’s special presentations is a 19th anniversary screening of Trick ’r Treat with acclaimed writer and director Michael Dougherty (Krampus, Godzilla: King of the Monsters) in attendance,” reads a press release from VHS.
The event will also feature the world premiere of a new film called Encryption from Canadian writer-director Brayden DeMorest-Purdy.
Also coming to the screen will be Indonesian body-horror film Sleep No More, Ithaqua (featuring Luke Hemsworth) and The Glorious Dead, which takes place in a bloody, apocalyptic small town.
More films will be announced at a later date. There will also be a short-film program.
It won’t all be films on the big screen. VHS will also have events for filmmakers and industry folks, including a talk featuring Dougherty, a panel discussing the horror genre and table reads of emerging writers’ scripts.
“The program offers writers immediate, practical insight into how their work translates from the page while helping them strengthen their scripts and prepare for future development, financing and production opportunities,” reads the release.
Individual tickets aren’t on sale yet. Early bird passes are on sale now.
