ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WCYB) — The man charged following a fatal crash involving the Milligan cycling team last month was denied bond at a hearing on Wednesday in Carter County.

John Benfield was accused of violating his bond conditions last month by drinking alcohol and his bond was revoked. His request for bond on Wednesday was denied by Judge Keith Bowers.

Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers were killed in the crash that happened on August 19. Seven other cyclists were hospitalized. All have since been released.

Benfield was previously charged with two counts of vehicular homicide by recklessness and five counts of aggravated assault by vehicle by recklessness. On Wednesday, Benfield was additionally charged with two more counts of aggravated assault by recklessness and reckless endangerment.

Benfield is due back in court on September 18.
