Four Brampton residents are facing numerous charges following an investigation into a series of organized retail thefts across the Greater Toronto Area.

The investigation began in Mississauga after Peel Regional Police responded to a reported theft at a business near Clayhill Road and Dundas Street West on June 18.

Investigators with the 11 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau identified several suspects and linked them to additional retail thefts throughout Peel Region.

On July 20, police executed a search warrant at a residence near Mississauga Road and Mayfield Road in Brampton.

Officers say they recovered approximately $15,000 worth of property stolen from several retailers, including fitness, department and pharmacy stores.

The recovered items included electronics, health and fitness products, household goods, health supplements and cosmetics. Police also seized two vehicles, jewelry and cash in various currencies.

Four Brampton residents were arrested and charged in connection with the investigation.

Czuljana Ciecierska, 43, is facing seven counts of theft under $5,000, one count of theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and laundering proceeds of crime.

Dawid Ciecierski, 47, faces four counts of theft under $5,000, one count of theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and laundering proceeds of crime.

Dawid Ciecierski, 21, faces three counts of theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and laundering proceeds of crime.

Danuta Towinska, 20, faces one count of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are asking anyone with additional information to contact the 11 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 1133.

Peel Regional Police say organized retail crime remains a significant focus for investigators. So far this year, police have made 611 arrests and laid 1,276 charges in connection with retail theft.

Police will also host a Retail Organized Crime Conference in October, bringing together law enforcement agencies, retailers and government partners to discuss ways of disrupting organized retail crime.

“Organized retail crime continues to fuel violent criminal activity, including drug trafficking and robberies, in our communities extending beyond simply stolen merchandise,” Deputy Chief Marc Andrews said in the release. “That’s why Peel Regional Police investigators will be relentless in identifying those responsible, holding them to account, and ensuring our communities are safe.”
