The city has brought together a group of young residents to be a voice for the next generation of Brampton’s citizens in council chambers.

Brampton’s first-ever Youth Cabinet executive team is a 25-member group of residents between the ages of 14 and 29, and will share ideas, provide input “through a youth lens and help shape initiatives that matter to young people,” the city says.

The cabinet will also support new youth-led projects, work with the city on event planning and work to strengthen connections with youth across Brampton.

The group’s term will last until June 2027, and they will meet monthly starting on Thursday.

“These 25 young leaders bring valuable ideas, experiences and perspectives that will help us better understand what matters to Brampton’s youth,” Mayor Patrick Brown said in a release. “I look forward to seeing the Cabinet turn those perspectives into meaningful action and make its mark on our community.”

Cabinet members were selected through an open application process, and the city says the inaugural members will represent their peers and bring youth perspectives directly into city priorities and decision-making.

Each of the city’s five ward pairings is represented by two co-leads, including one teen aged 14 to 18 and one young adult aged 19 to 29, four members supporting the advisory, communications and outreach working groups, and five members supporting the events working group.

“Together, the working groups will help advance the Cabinet’s mandate by creating opportunities for youth to engage with the city, raising awareness of issues important to young people and supporting projects, events and initiatives that reflect youth interests and perspectives,” the city says.

And while the executive team positions have been filled, general membership on the Youth Cabinet will remain open throughout the 2026-2027 term to Brampton residents aged 14 to 29.

“General members can stay connected to the cabinet, learn about upcoming opportunities and participate in youth engagement initiatives throughout the year. No previous experience is required,” the city says.
