LAST TIME: SIUE opened the home season with its first win of the year, defeating Saint Louis 1-0 Sunday. The win brought the Bronze Boot back to Edwardsville after Ryley Gibbs’ header in the 37th minute lifted the Cougars to the win over the rival Billikens at Korte Stadium.
ROAD TRIPPING: The game at Loyola, means the Cougars will have played four of their first five games on the road.
HOME COOKING: The Cougars return to Edwardsville for a Wednesday home contest with Bradley. It marks the first of a four-game home stand. Since the start of the 2023 season, SIUE is 21-6-2 at Korte Stadium.
RANK AND FILE: SIUE faced a pair of ranked opponent to start the season. The Cougars dropped a Thursday contest to 24th-ranked Michigan State. SIUE opened the season against No. 25 Kansas City. SLU had been ranked among the top 10 for the first two weeks this season.
ON THE LINE: The winner takes home the Joseph Carenza, Sr. trophy, aslo known as the Bronze Boot. The trophy is named for St. Louis soccer legend Joseph Carenza, Sr.
THE SERIES: The all-time series with Loyola dates to 1992, but the two teams met 11 times between 2013 and 2021 as members of the Missouri Valley Conference. SIUE is in search of its first win at Loyola.
