Work has begun on the new 62,000-square-foot expansion of the Coke bottling plant in Brampton – the largest of the company’s Canadian facilities.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Sept. 3 at the site of the expansion, which will add on to Coke Canada Bottling’s 670,000-square-foot Brampton plant alongside active manufacturing, distribution, and logistics operations.

Back in February, Coca-Cola Canada said it was spending $141 million to renovate and expand its flagship manufacturing, distribution and sales centre in Brampton that employs some 1,300 people in its manufacturing facility, warehouse, distribution centre, customer solutions call centre, and local sales centre.

“We’re committed to growing in Brampton and building a future-ready, multi-generational business,” President of Coke Canada Bottling Tony Chow said in a release sent to INSauga.com, adding that the expansion will include “a state-of-the-art, technology-enabled can line that will increase local production capacity and help us bring beverage innovation to our customers faster.”

“By investing in the capacity, capabilities, and infrastructure needed to support our long-term growth, we’re strengthening our ability to serve our customers throughout Ontario and eastern Canada,” Chow said.

The groundbreaking ceremony brought together leaders and team members from Coke Canada Bottling and development company Broccolini, along with trades and consultant partners and Coke Canada employees.

The expansion was recently highlighted on Site Selection’s annual list of the best Canadian municipalities for investments, with 1,265 new jobs created in Brampton and nearly 4,000 in Mississauga. The project is expected to lead to the creation of 500 jobs during the construction period.

Coke Canada Bottling says it has invested more than $230 million in its Brampton manufacturing and distribution operations since becoming an independent, family-owned business over seven years ago. Beverages made there are distributed across the province and throughout eastern Canada.
