Police in Mississauga and Brampton say residents should be aware of an extortion and arson suspect from WInnipeg who could be hiding out in Ontario.

The Winnipeg Police Service says Farhan Nabil, 29, has been charged with two counts each of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence (arson) and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence (extortion).

The charges are linked to extortion attempts and fires at multiple Winnipeg businesses last year, and investigators said in May that Nabil was believed to have left Manitoba.

Winnipeg police now say Nabil could be in Ontario, and several law enforcement agencies in the province, including Peel Regional Police, reposted an update from investigators on Thursday.

Nabil is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant, and six individuals were previously arrested in connection with the extortion and arson incidents that occurred in July 2025.

Anyone with information on the suspect or his whereabouts is asked to contact Winnipeg police by calling 204-986-6219, or your local police force.

Violent extortion incidents have been an ongoing issue for police and residents in Caledon, Brampton and Mississauga for years, as well as in B.C., Manitoba and Alberta. The number of extortion-related crimes in Peel Region spiked in 2024, with 490 incidents reported.

Some of the extortion incident have been linked to the Bishnoi Gang – an organized crime group based in India that is accused of assassinations, shootings, murders, kidnappings, assaults, and trafficking narcotics and weapons. The gang has claimed responsibility for widespread extortion in Brampton.
