PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The University of Maine women’s soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie against Providence College on Thursday night at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
The Black Bears took a 1-0 lead in the final minute of the first half when Victoria Dungey turned through two defenders at midfield and sent a ball up the middle for a streaking Isabella Meadows. Meadows ran onto it and carried it into the box before touching it inside the right post with 37 seconds to go in the half.
The Friars kept searching for an equalizer and found it with less than 10 minutes to play, with a goal originally called offsides being overturned to even the score at 1-1.
NOTES
Providence had the edge in shots on goal, 6-4.
The Friars led in corner kicks, 2-1.
Elena Barenberg made five saves for Maine.
Maine is now 2-11-1 in the all-time series against Providence.
The tie marked Maine’s first result against a Big East school since tying St. John’s during the 2007 season.
Isabella Meadows scored her second goal of the season.
Victoria Dungey earned her second assist of the year … Dungey was playing in her 60th career game.
Luise Reinwald played in her 60th career game.
Meghan Bernetti made her 50th career start.
Bernetti and Olivia Grisdale played the full 90 minutes for Maine.
