Women’s Tennis Concludes Day One Of Tournament Play

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Carolina women’s tennis opened the fall season in two tournaments on Friday. Nine Tar Heels began the weekend at the Kitty Harrison Invitational held in Chapel Hill. The rest of the team began tournament play on the road at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. Across both tournaments, Carolina picked up 10 singles wins and eight in doubles action.
 
Kitty Harrison Invitational
UNC got the day started with two rounds of doubles matches. Duos Nicole Khirin/Tatum Evans and Maddy Zampardo/Susanna Maltby went undefeated, 2-0, on day one of the invitational. 
 
In singles play, Susanna Maltby recorded the first win of the day in straight sets. No. 21 Tatum Evans secured a win over no. 32 Vivian Yang from Virginia in straight sets. In a three-set battle including a tiebreak, Maddy Zampardo picked up the second singles win of the day for Carolina. The win marked her first ranked win of the year. Thea Rabman also earned a straight-set win over her opponent from Charlotte.
 
The Tar Heels will return to action at 9 a.m. with a round of doubles matches on Saturday.

Milwaukee Tennis Classic
Both doubles teams picked up wins to start the day in Wisconsin. Mary Grace Rennard/Alana Boyce earned a 6-2 win while Alanis Hamilton/Anna Frey topped their opponents 6-3. 
 
Three Tar Heels went undefeated in singles play across the round of 32 and 16. Anna Frey and Alanis Hamilton recorded straight-set wins in both matches while Alana Boyce fought to win her second match in a tiebreak. 
 
Carolina will pick up play Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Milwaukee.
