A Mississauga man is facing charges in an ongoing fraud investigation, and police believe there may be other victims who have yet to come forward.
Investigators allege that between April 2024 and August 2026, the accused sold fraudulent automobile insurance policies and knowingly provided victims with falsified proof of insurance documents across the GTA.
“To date, police have identified 15 incidents connected to the scheme, with reported victim losses exceeding $10,000,” said Peel Regional Police.
Police say he was previously licensed to sell insurance and had been employed by several insurance brokerages, and that he continued selling insurance policies after he no longer had the legal authority or licence to do so.
25-year-old Mississauga man Muhammad Raahim, was arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
He has since been released with conditions and is awaiting a future court appearance.
“Members of the public are reminded to exercise caution when purchasing automobile insurance and to verify that insurance providers, brokers, and agents are properly licensed before making payments or relying on proof of coverage documents,” said police.
Investigators believe there may be more victims, and are urging anyone who purchased automobile insurance through Raahim to contact Peel Regional Police’s Fraud Bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 3335.
