Two years after signing Derek Gee to a contract extension that was set to keep him at Israel-Premier Tech all the way until 2028, the team announced on Friday that it had been “unexpectedly issued a notice of termination from lawyers representing Derek Gee” earlier this month.
The revelation that a contract dispute is underway behind the scenes comes after Gee was surprisingly left off of Israel-Premier Tech’s Vuelta a España roster despite having been expected to headline the team there. That initial indication that something might be amiss has since been followed up by reports – by Daniel Benson and Ciro Scognamiglio – that Gee has been in negotiations to join the Ineos Grenadiers.
