Costco is in the middle of a major expansion in Canada, with as many as 11 new warehouse locations expected or targeted to open across the country by the end of 2027.

The expansion includes new locations in Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia, although not every project has an officially confirmed opening date from Costco.

Four new Canadian warehouses are scheduled to open in November 2026, according to Costco’s expansion plans.

Those locations are Northeast Edmonton and Lloydminster in Alberta, along with East Windsor and Wasaga Beach in Ontario.

The four Canadian openings are part of a larger push by Costco across North America, with 14 new warehouses slated to open in Canada and the United States during October and November.

Two other Canadian projects are also expected to open in 2026.

A new Costco at Bingham Crossing in Rocky View County, Alberta, west of Calgary, is under construction. The Alberta government’s major projects database lists the approximately 165,000-square-foot warehouse as having an anticipated fall 2026 completion.

In Saskatchewan, construction is underway on Regina’s second Costco, in the city’s west end, with the new warehouse expected to open in late 2026.

That means six new Costco warehouses are currently expected to open in Canada during 2026 if construction and opening schedules proceed as planned.

Costco’s Canadian expansion is expected to continue into 2027, with another five projects either targeting or reported as potentially opening that year.

In Belleville, Ontario, plans call for an approximately 167,000-square-foot Costco on Bell Boulevard. Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis announced that construction is expected to begin in spring 2027, with completion targeted for the fall.

In Oakville, a new Costco is planned for Wyecroft Road near Burloak Drive. The project has received final site plan approval and has been reported as targeting a fall 2027 opening.

Another Costco is planned in Halton Hills, near the Milton border, at Regional Road 25 and 5 Sideroad. The project has been reported as targeting a late 2027 opening.

British Columbia is also expected to get another warehouse, with a new Costco planned for South Surrey. The approximately 165,000-square-foot project has received municipal approval and is targeting a late 2027 opening.

Thunder Bay could also get its long-awaited Costco in 2027.

Costco has acquired land near Golf Links Road and Central Avenue for the project, and signs of the development have appeared at the property. However, Costco has not announced an official opening date, so a 2027 opening remains an estimate rather than a confirmed date.

Taken together, there are 11 new Canadian Costco warehouses currently expected, targeted or estimated to open by the end of 2027.

The opening timelines could change as construction and development progress, and not all of the 11 dates have been officially announced by Costco.

The expansion comes as Costco continues to report strong sales.

Costco reported US$23.70 billion in net sales for the four-week retail month of August 2026, an increase of 9.9 per cent from US$21.56 billion during the same period a year earlier.

Comparable sales increased 4 per cent in Canada during the period.

For the 52-week fiscal year ending Aug. 30, Costco reported net sales of US$297.3 billion, up 10.2 per cent from US$269.9 billion the previous year.

As of the end of August, Costco operated 115 warehouses in Canada and 939 worldwide.

If all of the Canadian projects currently expected or targeted for completion proceed according to their reported schedules, Costco’s footprint in Canada could grow substantially by the end of 2027.
