Four sites in Surrey and two in Delta will host a Terry Fox Run this week and next.

The 46th annual fundraiser aims to advance cancer research while honouring Fox’s iconic Marathon of Hope, stalled in 1980 but symbolically continued by close to four million Canadians in 600 communities this year.

Run day is Sunday, Sept. 20, other than a two-kilometre walk at SFU Surrey on Tuesday, Sept. 22, held to honour “an SFU student and Canadian hero whose legacy continues to change lives.”

Other Terry Fox Run sites on terryfox.org include Fraser Heights Village, Fleetwood Park, South Surrey Athletic Park and Sungod Arena, with Newton and Cloverdale listed “not in-person” but shown on the website.

People of all ages and abilities are invited to walk, run, blade, skate or wheel on Sept. 20. The Terry Fox School Run will follow with more than 10,000 schools across Canada expected to participate this fall.

Earlier this year, Terry Fox Foundation announced it had surpassed $1 billion raised for cancer research, a historic milestone achieved with Terry Fox Run participation over four decades.

“Terry believed that research could change the future of cancer, and Canadians have spent more than four decades helping turn that belief into action,” said Michael Mazza, foundation CEO.

“Unprecedented national collaboration and data sharing is enabling the advancement of precision medicine from coast to coast to coast and showing us the path to the finish line. We are calling on every school and community in Canada to help us fundraise and realize Terry’s dream of a world without cancer.”
