And in this search, it appears NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has reached out to one key figure behind one of the biggest criticisms of Engelbert.

Speaking to reporters, Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham revealed she had multiple conversations with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver about the new WNBA Commissioner search.
She claimed that she gave her input on what the WNBA stars need from a new commissioner to help grow their sport and protect the women in the league.
“I had to talk to Adam Silver a couple of times. I think he is a great guy, very knowledgeable and full of wisdom. Just getting to talk to him and hearing his perspective on how he approaches the NBA is huge.
“Who he is kind of looking for, I think if you want to hear a real answer, you go to him. I think he’s going to put someone in place who wants to take our league to another level than it is already at. Our league is booming, so why would we not want someone who is going to try to make it even more booming?
“I think he’s going to do that. I’m super excited about that search and who he is going to bring in for us women… I just have my agents and refer to them. He just reached out.

“Like I said, I hope to keep in close communication with him. I think it’s great to know that for business and after basketball, the opportunity is there.
“I truly think the business side of sport is super fun and cool. Maybe I’ll get into that when I’m done playing. But anytime you can talk to Adam Silver, why would you not take that and pick their brain?”
Cunningham having influence over the selection of the next WNBA Commissioner might rub some people the wrong way, as it shrinks the chasm needed between players and league management.
However, given that the recent trans athlete controversy was sparked by Cunningham, perhaps higher-ups feel it would be better to have the Fever star on board to protect the cultural cache she has garnered.
