Peel Regional Police say a 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged following an investigation into 71 vehicle break-ins across Mississauga.
Police allege the incidents occurred during the early morning hours of September 3 and 6, targeting neighbourhoods throughout the city. Investigators say vehicles were entered by smashing windows or taking advantage of unlocked doors, with valuables allegedly stolen from inside.
Police also clear that no vehicles were stolen, and all were unoccupied at the time. However, police say the break-ins caused significant property damage and financial losses for residents.
Cory Lowden, of no fixed address, faces multiple charges, including theft, mischief over $5,000 and 46 counts of attempting to commit an indictable offence. He was also arrested on two outstanding warrants related to separate fraud investigations.
Lowden was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Police say investigators are also examining possible links to similar vehicle break-ins in Halton, Toronto, York and Waterloo regions.
