Being behind bars is not stopping Tory Lanez from making music.
Brampton rapper Tory Lanez is going on tour.
There is just one fairly significant problem: he is currently in prison and won’t actually be there.
Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, has announced what is being called the “Not On ‘Tor’ Tour,” a series of music events that will bring his music to several cities this fall while he continues serving a 10-year prison sentence in California.
And for his hometown fans, the good news is that Toronto is expected to be one of the stops, although organizers have not yet announced a Toronto date or venue.
The bad news, if you’re buying a ticket hoping to see Lanez himself, is that he won’t be taking the stage.
The tour is being billed as a series of “listening experiences” featuring DJs, special guests and music from Lanez’s catalogue, including his latest album. Lanez announced the tour on social media this week, with the first event scheduled for Sept. 25 in New York.
The currently announced U.S. stops are New York, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., New Orleans and Pittsburgh. Toronto and Montreal have been identified as additional Canadian stops, with details still to be announced.
So, yes, Brampton’s Tory Lanez is technically going on tour without going anywhere.
The name “Not On ‘Tor’ Tour” appears to acknowledge the unusual arrangement. Lanez’s music will be travelling from city to city, but the artist himself won’t.

What will fans will actually see is still somewhat unclear.
The events are described as listening experiences rather than traditional concerts. Organizers say DJs and special guests will be involved, along with music from Lanez’s latest album and his catalogue.
Lanez’s most recent album, Made You Think I Was Gone …But, was released in July. The 23-track project is split between rap and R&B material and was released while he was incarcerated.
Beyond the promise of DJs, special guests and Lanez’s music, organizers have not provided a detailed breakdown of exactly what fans will experience at each event.
In other words, don’t show up expecting the Brampton-born rapper to suddenly emerge from backstage.
Lanez’s absence is not a surprise, however. He is serving a 10-year sentence after being convicted in Los Angeles in connection with the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
A jury found Lanez guilty in December 2022 of three felony charges: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possessing a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August 2023.
For those who have followed Lanez’s career since his early days, the Toronto-area stop is particularly notable.
Lanez was born in Brampton in 1992 and spent part of his youth in the city. He attended Fletcher’s Meadow Secondary School, where he developed his interest in music and began building his reputation as an artist.
He began making music at a young age and was already releasing mixtapes before his career took off internationally.
His 2016 debut studio album, I Told You, reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200, while songs including Say It and LUV helped turn the Brampton artist into an international name.
His career has continued unusually during his incarceration.
Lanez has released music while behind bars, including the 2025 album Peterson and the 2026 project Made You Think I Was Gone …But.
Now his music is hitting the road without him.
For Toronto fans, the “Not On ‘Tor’ Tour” could eventually provide the closest opportunity to experience the project without travelling into the United States. But for now, they’ll have to wait for organizers to reveal when and where the Toronto event will take place.
Just don’t confuse it with a comeback concert.
Tory Lanez will be touring, but Tory Lanez will not be there.
