A 20-year-old man has been charged nearly two months after a woman was sexually assaulted while walking in Winnipeg over the summer.
A woman was walking around 10:30 p.m. on July 19 when she was grabbed by a man she didn’t know and pulled into an alcove near Canora Street and Picardy Place, Winnipeg police previously said.
The man threatened the woman and then choked, sexually assaulted and robbed her, police said.
At the time, police sent out a description of the man to help find him.
A suspect was identified after a forensic analysis, and an arrest warrant was issued, police said in an update on Thursday.
Investigators from the sex crimes unit went to the Headingley Correctional Institution on Tuesday, where they arrested a 20-year-old man who was in custody for an unrelated reason, police said.
The man has been charged with sexual assault and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
He is still in custody, police said.
