Voters across Ontario will go to the polls in a little over a month, but are you ready to cast your ballot in Brampton?

Municipal election day is Oct. 26, and the city says Brampton residents should be receiving their voter notices in the mail this week.

Voter notices help residents cast their ballots and give important information on when and where to vote. But voters will need to check their notice as soon as it arrives to confirm the information is accurate to avoid delays on election day, the city says.

And if you don’t receive a voter notice, you may not be on the voters’ list.

How to get on the voters list

Brampton residents can use the city’s online tool to update their information or request to be added to the voters’ list until 5 p.m. on Oct. 17.

“Changes submitted to the voters’ list online will be confirmed when you visit a voting location and show identification with your name and address,” the city says.

Voters can also confirm, update or add their information in person at the City Clerk’s Office at Brampton City Hall until 4:30 p.m. on voting day, or by attending a voting location.

“When voting, voters are encouraged to bring their voter notice along with a piece of identification ​showing their name and Brampton address,” the city says. “Bringing a voter notice can help make the voting process faster, but it is not required to vote and cannot be used as identification on its own.”

Who can vote?

You are eligible to vote in the Brampton municipal election if, on voting day, you are a Canadian citizen, are at least 18 years old and reside in Brampton (or are the owner or tenant of land in Brampton or the spouse of such owner or tenant).

When and where to vote

Voting day is Oct. 26, but Brampton residents can cast their ballots early on Oct. 9, 10, 11, 16 and 17. Advance polling stations will be open on weekdays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Voters can vote at any advance polling location across the city during early voting. But on election day, voters must vote at a location within their ward.

Residents can use the City’s online tool to find advance voting locations and polling stations.
