Surrey is opening reservations for scattering cremated remains at Surrey Public Wharf on the Fraser River through a pilot project there.
“For many families, the spreading of a loved one’s ashes in flowing water is an important cultural, religious and personally significant practice,” Mayor Brenda Locke stated in a press release.
“This project provides a safe and respectful place where families can come together to remember loved ones and honour traditions deeply meaningful to them.”
She said environmental assessments indicate the site can be safely used for this purpose.
People planning an ash-scattering ceremony there will have to reserve a date and time through an online booking form that will be on the City of Surrey’s website on September 21. There is a $237 service fee.
