In early September 2026, Mississauga residents were alarmed by a rash of vehicle break-ins that occurred across several neighborhoods in the city. Peel Regional Police have arrested Cory Lowden, 34, who is accused of breaking into 71 vehicles between September 3 and September 6. This spree primarily targeted cars parked overnight, with the suspect allegedly smashing windows or exploiting unlocked doors to steal valuables.
The break-ins resulted in significant property damage and financial losses for the victims. Lowden, who has no fixed address, faces numerous charges, including 46 counts of attempting to commit an indictable offence, 16 counts of theft under $5,000, and 15 counts of mischief over $5,000. Additionally, he was arrested on two outstanding fraud warrants. Investigators are now examining possible connections to similar crimes in Halton, Toronto, York, and Waterloo.
Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah emphasized the importance of community vigilance and quick reporting, which aided in linking these incidents together.
