Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon questioned Thursday the timing of Amnesty International’s scathing report that found members of the party broke international human rights laws by filing a series of complaints against a psychiatrist over her social media posts.

The report, made public Wednesday, said PQ general manager Génifère Legrand, current candidates Isabelle Blais and Pierre-Luc Brillant, and former PQ leader Jean-François Lisée’s complaints with Quebec’s order of physicians “maintain a harrasing” effect on Dr. Marie-Ève Cotton.

The report also said the complaints “represent a restriction on her ability to exercise her rights to political expression, academic freedom, and the right to human rights defence, as guaranteed by international law.” Amnesty International had been looking into Cotton’s case for about a year.
