Rick Johal is a self-described happy Quebec anglo.

Born and raised in Montreal’s West Island, he attended Concordia University and now lives in Lennoxville in the Eastern Townships, where his wife’s family is from. He’s fluently bilingual and has a good job in the video game industry. He would have liked for his children to go to a French school, but distance and logistics wouldn’t allow it, so they attend the nearby English elementary. He and his wife pay a private tutor for extra French lessons.

“I’m very, very happy living here,” said Johal, 37. “I’ve lived here my whole life. I’ve never envisioned leaving Quebec. I tend to take the position that I think we have it pretty good.”
