With its iconic 165-foot clock tower chiming the hour, the time has come to unveil Nostalgia Townlet and the potentials of what a new community with vision can become.
Nostalgia Townlet recently opened 18 new show homes and a massive 13,000-square-foot presentation centre that captures the grand design for this European-inspired community blending the Old World and the new.
With a mile and a half of ridgeline overlooking the Bow River, the land that was formerly the Ricardo Ranch presents a pristine vista of natural wonder and exciting promise. It is located in one of the busiest new home sectors in the city where no less than five new communities have been introduced in the past three years.
But Jay Westman, chairman and CEO of Jayman Built, believes that it is the vision to create a complete, compelling, lifestyle-oriented community that will set Nostalgia Townlet apart.
“Nostalgia Townlet will change what communities can look like,” he said during his opening remarks at the VIP event ahead of the Sept. 19 grand opening.
“Nostalgia isn’t just a place to live — it’s a place to belong,” he told the crowd that included leaders from the new homebuilding industry and City of Calgary representatives, including Mayor Jeromy Farkas.
“We are creating a legacy community — one that redefines lifestyle, connection and wellness for generations to come.”
This isn’t the first time that Jayman Built has redefined the way Calgarians live, and its Westman Village development in the lake community of Mahogany, also in the southeast, offers proof that belief and a commitment to a vision can succeed.
“Everybody thought we were crazy when we announced plans for Westman Village. A lot of our ideas were considered unconventional at the start. But today those same ideas are accepted. Just because something hadn’t been done before doesn’t mean it can’t work,” he said.
It is this same drive that is fuelling the growth of Nostalgia, he said. “Nostalgia is its own idea. It’s not just any subdivision — it’s a place, a brand, a name and an opportunity.”
Nostalgia Townlet promises a vibrant charm and the timelessness of a European village complete with a variety of boutique shops, cafes, restaurants and specialty grocery store centred around its Main Street. The community is anchored by the massive clock tower, one of the tallest in the world. It can be seen from Deerfoot Trail when driving into the city from the south. There will also be a boutique hotel and conference centre within the community.
At its heart will be the prestigious Nostalgia Club, a state-of-the-art 400,000-sq.-ft. private social and athletic club that is unlike anything else in Calgary or across North America.
It will offer everything from sophisticated dining to world-class recreational spaces, business lounges, children and family services, aquatics, spas and even an adult-oriented private rooftop pool. Memberships are already being sold and has already attracted some 200 members.
The wide range of homes available — all exclusively from Jayman Built — is designed to attract a varied demographic of buyers, said Stephanie Myers, senior vice-president for Nostalgia townlet.
“Nostalgia will offer everything from affordable homes for first-time homebuyers to elegant estate homes and everything in between,” she said.
Available are single-family detached homes using a new wide format design built form, to seniors’ living, townhomes, condominiums and purpose-built rentals, for every lifestyle.
Homes will feature Jayman Built’s next generation design, and industry-leading sustainable building practices including solar panels, triple pane windows, tankless hot water heaters and other smart home features as standard.
The architectural styling will feature extremely durable products, such as standing-seam steel roofs, brick, stone and stucco materials, creating a unique, vibrant streetscape.
The 18 show homes that are open now (four more will open soon) provide a taste of the refined, elevated lifestyle available. Townhomes, side-by-sides, bungalows and front-drive garage homes are now open to view — each with a verve and flair of its own that sets them apart.
Among the most popular is the Lawrence, a 1,962-sq.-ft., three-bed, and 2½-bath stunner with a suspended fireplace in the sunken great room, and a rear kitchen with an island eating bar. Then there’s the 2,980-sq.-ft. Thames, which takes a page from the Calgary Central Library’s design with its distinctive curved staircase. Make sure to visit The Severn with its carriage suite over the garage — a rarity in the city.
The Icona townhomes, which opened earlier, are no-condo fee homes that have proven popular with 40 percent of the first release sold.
“Nostalgia Townlet is an exciting development, and we can’t wait to show everyone all that it can become,” Myers says.
