It was a rainy Friday in White Rock, Surrey and Delta for 70 law enforcement officers on a Run to Remember from Abbotsford to Victoria over three days, Sept. 24-26, 2026.

Eight years running, the memorial event honours those who paid “the ultimate sacrifice.”

With police escort, Day 2 saw officers run through Surrey from White Rock to Tsawwassen with stops at the pier, Mud Bay Park for lunch and a run on the dyke to the southwest corner of the region.

Each day on the Run to Remember involves a 135-kilometre run — one kilometre for every fallen officer in B.C., notes the website r2rwestcoast.ca. All proceeds go to the B.C. Law Enforcement Memorial.

In Victoria on Saturday (Sept. 26), anyone can join the final 11 kilometres of the run to the BC Law Enforcement Memorial Bastion (sign up on eventbrite.com).

The R2R Westcoast run is part of a National Peace Officers Memorial Run, established in 2005 when the Peel Regional Police running team, The Pacers, decided to raise awareness of the annual Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Service held annually on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

The running team wanted to create a way of raising awareness of the annual service and, at the same time, pay tribute to officers who had “so valiantly given their lives in service of their community and country,” says the website npomr.org.
