Production is underway on The Mummy 4 ahead of the film’s release in 2027. While the long wait continues for the sequel, new images have revealed a first look at Rachel Weisz’s long-awaited return to the franchise.

Amid filming in the UK, Weisz was spotted filming scenes for her return as Evelyn O’Connell in The Mummy 4. Images of her in full costume were taken and have been quickly spreading online. Fans are very excited to see the photos, and it’s no wonder why they are going viral. This is the first time Weisz has been seen in the role of Evelyn since appearing in the second Mummy movie in 2001, at which point she exited the franchise.

The Mummy 4, which has not yet had its official title announced, reunites Weisz with franchise star Brendan Fraser. It’s believed that the new sequel will ignore the third installment of the franchise, 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. After Weisz played Evelyn in 1999’s The Mummy and 2001’s The Mummy Returns, she did not return for the third film. Her role was recast with Maria bello taking over.

Other franchise stars have been confirmed to appear with Weisz and Fraser in The Mummy 4. They include John Hannah as Jonathan Carnahan, Evelyn’s older brother; Arnold Vosloo as the villainous Imhotep, the undead High Priest of Osirus from the original movies; and Oded Fehr as Ardeth Bay, the Medjai chieftain and warrior. Also set to appear in the film are Michael Johnston (Obsession) and Numan Acar (Spider-Man: No Way Home).

“You’ve heard all the rumors and it’s true. Everyone’s back,” Hannah recently teased at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival.

The Sequel Will Give the Fans What They Want

Fraser has also hinted that fans will be happy with The Mummy 4. In order to make his return more plausible, the Oscar-winning actor needed to get back into shape as much as he could before filming began. While he also didn’t share specifics, he teased that the new installment is giving fans something they’ve always wanted.

“I’m doing my best to get this 57-year-old gear in shape,” he said on The Tonight Show. “We’re going to give the audience what they have been bothering all of us for the last 20-whatever years. What we’re going to do is saddle back up, go back to the locations.”

Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Scream, Ready or Not) are directing the sequel. David Coggeshall wrote the script. Sean Daniel, William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Kevin Jarre are producing.

The wait will end next year, as The Mummy 4 will be released in movie theaters on Oct. 15, 2027.
