CALGARY, AB. – The Calgary Wranglers kicked off their 2026-27 season on Friday, with their home opener game against the Abbotsford Canucks.

Calgary jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening period, with rookies Jonathan Castagna and Tyson Gross each finding the back of the net. In the second period, Mike Benning extended the Wranglers’ lead to 3-0.

Ty Mueller responded for the Canucks before the end of the second period, cutting Calgary’s lead to two. Jimmy Schuldt added a Canuck’s goal at 8:18 of the third period to cut the lead to one, but that was not quite enough, as Johnathon Castagna sealed the victory with an empty-netter for his second goal of the night. Both Teams killed four penalties during the game, shutting down the oppositions powerplay 0 for 4.

Calgary took the 4-2 victory, with Arsenii Sergeev stopping 30 of 32 shots he faced for the win.
