Huawei has confirmed that the Watch GT 6 series will launch on September 19, about a year after the last iteration. Ahead of that, the company is giving newsletter subscribers a 15 percent discount code valid for release day.

Huawei returns to its octagonal design

As seen in the teaser image, the new range will carry forward the octagonal casing seen on the Watch GT 5. Once again, the casing features a rotatable crown and a physical button on the right-hand side. This design choice appeared after Huawei moved away from the rounded forms of the earlier GT 3 line. For those who liked the sharper aesthetic of the GT 5, the GT 6 will feel familiar.

We are expecting the GT 6 to launch in two sizes, 41mm and 46mm. This was also the case with the GT 5, which Huawei aimed at users wanting either a smaller or more traditional-looking watch.

There’s no word yet on display specs or materials, but we can expect an AMOLED screen and polished case options if the GT 5 is anything to go by. That model came with sapphire glass and a stainless steel frame, depending on the variant.

Huawei Watch GT 6 Better GPS and upgraded software incoming

Huawei has hinted at improved tracking and training features. The new Sunflower Positioning System will be one of the highlights. It promises more accurate GPS performance, which should help with route mapping during outdoor runs, walks or rides. This may mark a step up from the GT 5, which occasionally struggled in dense urban environments or wooded trails.

HarmonyOS 5.1 will also power the new devices. So we should see some fresh UI elements and possibly new widgets or health modules.

One limitation of the previous GT series was its restricted app ecosystem. Huawei’s store still lacks many third-party fitness apps. That is unlikely to change with the GT 6 unless HarmonyOS has added more flexibility behind the scenes. Don’t hold your breath.

A discount before it even ships

Huawei is pushing early engagement by offering a 15 percent voucher to newsletter subscribers who sign up before September 19. The code is expected to be emailed on the day of the launch, making it valid from day one.

The offer is open through Huawei’s official channels and might be available in select regions only. Given the company’s recent push in Europe and Asia, it’s likely the GT 6 series will appear in both markets shortly after its China debut.

What we’d still like to see improved

The Watch GT line has a beautiful design. It has always impressed with its hardware and battery life, but there are still a few gaps. The GT 5, for example, lacked support for popular contactless payment systems. Health insights were decent but never matched the depth offered by brands like Garmin or Whoop.

If the GT 6 really is focused on “professional features” and endurance, Huawei will need to push past basic metrics like heart rate and calories. Smarter recovery tools and better long-term health analysis would help position it as a serious fitness wearable rather than a lifestyle gadget.
