A missing six-year-old girl who was last seen in Whitby over the weekend has been found in Mississauga and is now safe and sound, Durham Regional Police say.

Earlier today, officers said that Kaylee was last seen at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, near Dundas Street and Thickson Road in Whitby. Her disappearance prompted a wide search by police and a call for assistance to the media and the public.

Shortly after noon today, police took to social media to confirm that the child had been located.

Police did not release any additional details about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, but a spokesman for Durham Police said she was found in Mississauga “with the assistance of the media and some information from the public” in the company of Blair Hamilton, a friend of her father’s.

“She will be assessed and medically cleared, and we will be interviewing the man she was with,” the spokesman said.

Hamilton has not been charged with any offence in this case and police said that an investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

In a follow-up post on social media, police credited her safe return home to the “diligent work of our investigators, strong community awareness, and the support of the Child Search Network alert system.”

“We want to recognize and thank everyone involved for contributing to a positive and successful outcome,” police said on X.

“One of the tools used to support DRPS’s efforts today was the MCSC Rescue Child Search Alert, which sends notifications directly to mobile devices when a high-risk missing child may be in the area.”
