A narrow victory in the Montreal-area riding of Vachon has led the Parti Québécois (PQ) to officially request a vote recount, according to Radio-Canada.
The Quebec Liberal Party’s Affine Lwalalika received 10,063 votes, just 10 more than the PQ’s candidate, Stephan Fogaing, according to Élections Québec.
The riding was one of several close races in the province.
Benoît Clermont with the Liberals narrowly beat out Guillaume Cliche-Rivard, the former Québec Solidaire MNA in the riding of Saint-Henri-Sainte-Anne, in Montreal.
Initially, Cliche-Rivard said there might be a legal challenge in hopes of overturning the result. But on Wednesday, in a social media post published on Facebook, Cliche-Rivard congratulated Clermont on his victory.
“The final vote count completed yesterday by the returning officer…. revealed a major calculation error in the votes cast in favour of Benoît Clermont,” wrote Cliche-Rivard.
“His lead is no longer 39, but rather 275 votes. In light of his new fact, the result is clear.”
He thanked the 13,066 electors who voted for him, but said he accepts this result.
