Organizations on the front lines of Montreal’s homelessness crisis are urging premier-designate Paul St-Pierre Plamondon to keep his word and make the issue a top priority.
They’re also stressing the need for quick action. Despite the cold arriving, shelters are still waiting for provincial funding in order to open additional resources this winter — money St-Pierre Plamondon promised to unlock.
“The situation is urgent,” said Annie Savage of the Réseau d’aide aux personnes seules et itinérantes de Montréal (RAPSIM). “There are more than 200 tents at the Notre-Dame St. encampment alone, and we know shelters are full.”
