In his prime, Vasiliy Lomachenko moved about the ring as a ghost.
So there’s irony in the fact that the recently un-retired three-division champion spent weeks ghosting prior discussions to fight WBO top-ranked super-featherweight contender Charly Suarez.
An official connected to Suarez told BoxingScene that Suarez, 19-0 (11 KOs), is now content to wait for the winner of the October 24 three-belt title unification between WBO/IBF champion Emanuel Navarrete and WBC champion O’Shaquie Foster in San Antonio.
Foster told BoxingScene he’d honor the obligation of fighting Suarez should he defeat Mexico’s Navarrete.
Navarrete won a disputed May 2025 bout over Philippines’ Suarez by technical decision after video replay showed Suarez should’ve been granted the victory by TKO because a Navarrete cut was caused by a Suarez punch, not a headbutt as the referee ruled.
Lomachenko’s disinterest in fighting Suarez is believed related to him targeting WBA junior-lightweight champion Anthony Cacace.
The winner of that fight will be positioned to fight whoever emerges as the unified three-belt champion for undisputed supremacy.
