Baz Ashmawy told Patrick Kielty on Friday’s Late Late Show that he and partner Tanja Evans “snuck off and got married in April” after 20 years together.

“After whatever it was, 20-odd years, we just thought, you know, you want to be sure!” the DIY SOS: The Big Build Ireland presenter joked.

“You know yourself, your life is out there, and everything’s very public all the time,” he continued.

“And for us, and for our family, we just wanted to do something very quiet and very private. And we just snuck under the radar and we just did it for the kids, really, you know?”

Ashmawy is back with the new series of DIY SOS: The Big Build Ireland on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player on Sundays as volunteers help families around the country.

“It blows me away every time,” he said.

“There’s much better people out there then you’d be lead to believe. It restores my faith” ❤️ Baz Ashmawy on seeing the best of people while working on #DIYSOS 🫂 #LateLate https://t.co/yy8iUfo9CG

“You can be mistaken into believing that out there it’s all negative, it’s all bad. I’m telling you, it’s not.

“There’s great people out there. There’s much better people out there than you would be led to believe. And it (the series) restores my faith – that’s what it does. It just makes me feel much better.”
