Advance voting Saturday in Surrey for civic election, other dates this week

Civic election advance voting started Wednesday morning in Surrey and continues today (Saturday, Oct. 10).

On four days (Oct. 7, 10, 14 and 15), Surrey has 10 voting places open for 12-hour periods, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.:

• Kwantlen Park Secondary
• Guildford Recreation Centre
• Fraser Heights Recreation Centre
• Fleetwood Community Centre
• Frank Hurt Secondary
• Princess Margaret Secondary
• Ecole Panorama Ridge Secondary
• Cloverdale Recreation Centre
• Semiahmoo Secondary
• Earl Marriott Secondary

Surrey’s Chief Election Officer, Gib van Ert, said the number of advance voting places jumped from six last election (in 2022) to 10 sites in 2026, in response to increased voter demand for advance voting.

“Last time round, turnout in the advance polling was over 30 per cent of electors, so that’s pretty remarkable,” van Ert said. “In 2022 it was about 35,000 electors voting in advance, and the total number for the election was around 123,000. So close to 30 per cent voted ahead of time and 70 per cent voted on general election day. With the increase in advanced voting locations, maybe we’ll see more advanced voting. That is sort of what we’re anticipating, and we’ll see how it goes. We know it’s a popular option.”

On final voting day (Saturday, Oct. 17), 52 voting sites are spread across Surrey. Check the list on surrey.ca.

Eligible voters can request a mail ballot package until Wednesday, Oct. 14.

In Surrey there are 97 candidates on the ballot for mayor (seven names), council (66) and school trustee (23).

In White Rock, advance voting days are Oct. 7, 8 and 13 at Centennial Arena (14600 North Bluff Rd.), 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters will elect on mayor, six councillors and one school trustee for the city. Look for details on whiterockcity.ca/election.

In Delta, advance voting began Saturday, Oct. 3 and ends today (Wednesday, Oct. 7) at four locations (Delta City Hall, North Delta Centre for the Arts, South Delta Recreation Centre and East Delta Hall).
