Fieldcrest’s Senko places 8th, earns medal at 1A state: At Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington, Knights senior Carter Senko shot a one-over 73 in the second round of the Class 1A state finals, finishing eighth and earning a medal with a two-day score of 149.

Seneca’s Stenzel finishes strong at 1A state: At Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur, Fighting Irish senior Piper Stenzel – in her fourth state appearance – shot a second-round score of 80 to finish with a two-day score of 170, good for 36th place at the Class 1A state finals.
Football
Flanagan-Cornell/Woodland 42, St. Thomas More 32: At Champaign, the Falcons improved to 5-2 on the season with the road Illinois 8-man Football Association win over the Sabers.
FCW – which led 30-16 at halftime and has now won four straight games – is now playoff eligible.
Volleyball
Serena d. Somonauk 23-25, 25-20, 25-15: In the third-place match of the Little Ten Conference Tournament at Shabbona, the Huskers (17-3-2) bounced back after dropping the opening set to defeat the Bobcats.
Serena was led by Anna Hjerpe (20 kills, 11 digs, three aces), Alexa McNally (eight kills), Maddie Young (six kills, six digs, 28 assists), Maddie Brooker (six kills, four digs), Brynley Glade (11 digs, three aces), Parker Twait (eight blocks).
Earlville d. Indian Creek 25-16, 25-19: In the fifth-place match of the Little Ten Conference Tournament at Shabbona, the Red Raiders topped the host Timberwolves in straight sets.
Earlville was led by Liz Vazquez (11 service points, nine digs), Jacey Helgesen (10 points, 13 digs), Audrey Scherer (11 kills), Addie Scherer (five kills, three blocks) and Payton Actis (11 assists).
Girls cross country
Seneca 1st, host Sandwich 2nd: At the Sandwich Fairgrounds, the Fighting Irish scored 39 points and the Indians 56 points to take the top two spots of the five-team Sandwich Invitational.
Seneca was led by Josie Mueller (20 minutes, 41 seconds, 2nd), Elly Thompson (20:51, 3rd), Talia Jenkins (21:00, 5th), Julie Mueller (23:06, 12th), Annika Jackson (24:34, 21st) and Aurora Jackson (24:53, 23rd).
Sandwich was led by champion Kayla Kressin (20:28), Isla Stevens (21:41, 7th), Olivia Agajanian (23:37, 14th), Norah Vick (24:24, 20th) and Lydia Cartwright (24:52, 22nd).
Streator was led by individual Luca Trammel (22:58, 10th), Giselle Guadarrama (23:18, 13th) and Briana Chavez (27:15, 30th).
Ottawa 16th at Metamora: In the 50th Gene Jones Runnin’ Red Invitational at Black Partridge Park, the Pirates (415) finished 16th of the 21 competing teams.
Ottawa was led by Georgia Kirkpatrick (21:14.8, 78th), Ailey Harstad (21:32.8, 89th), Leah Ferrantino (22:12.3, 113th), Sophia Hart (22:14.1, 115th), Ocean Fowler (22:28.2, 120th), Kyana Berry (22:33.4, 123rd) and Elizabeth Arnold (22:36.6, 125th).
Fieldcrest’s Nussbaum 25th at Heyworth: In the Heyworth Hornet Invite at Centennial Park, Knights sophomore Khloe Nussbaum finished 25th in a time of 23:17.4.
Boys cross country
Sandwich 2nd, Seneca 3rd, Streator 5th: At the Sandwich Fairgrounds, the Indians scored 47 points to finish behind only champion La Salle-Peru (37) in the seven-team Sandwich Invitational. Seneca (83) placed third and Streator (143) fifth.
Sandwich was led by Logan Trigg (17:17, 2nd), Lincoln Minard (17:51, 7th), Damien Walsh (18:28, 12th) and Jackson Miller (19:13, 20th).
Seneca was led by Liam Baima (17:32, 3rd), Alex Zydron (18:53, 15th), Landon Hebel (18:58, 16th), Callum Wright (19:00, 18th) and Brady Fort (19:12, 19th).
Phoenix Velazquez (18:32, 13th) led Streator, followed by Jack Rees (19:14, 21st) and Brayden Handzus (20:57, 35th).

Ottawa was led by Atlas Brown (16:26.2, 70th), Tucker Clemens (17:02.1, 101st), Connor Medina (17:08.8, 110th), Aries Brown (18:02.6, 144th) and Landon Gustafson (18:07.6, 148th).
Fieldcrest 6th at Heyworth: In the Heyworth Hornet Invite at Centennial Park, the Knights (137) placed sixth in the seven-team event.
Fieldcrest was led by Gavin Dikeman (18:27.4, 19th), Abram Harezlak (18:52.2, 27th), Rylan Vallazza (19:40.8, 44th), Cristian Rodriguez (19:47.8, 46th) and James Stolt )20:18.3, 49th).
Flanagan-Cornell’s Landon Lyons (19:38.4) finished 42nd.
Boys soccer
Streator 7, St. Bede 1: At the James Street Recreation Area, the Bulldogs (8-9-4) scored five goals in the first half in the victory over the visiting Bruins.
Mendota 4, Ottawa 2: At Mendota, the Pirates (6-11-1) were outscored 3-1 in the second half in the loss to the Trojans (16-4-1).
Hinckley-Big Rock 7, Sandwich 0: At Hinckley, the Indians (0-18) trailed 4-0 at halftime in the loss to the Royals.
Sandwich keeper Harry O’Neil made 18 saves.
