CHARLOTTE, N.C. – No. 17 Charlotte Men’s Soccer (7-1-3, 3-0-1) kept its winning streak alive, now at six games, with a 1-0 conference victory over South Florida (1-10-1, 0-4-1) on a late penalty kick goal from Mikey Raggett.

Mikey Raggett scored the Niners’ third consecutive goal and his fourth of the week after recording a hat trick earlier in the week against Mercer. Raggett is now up to nine goals on the season and has scored in three straight matches. He now leads the nation in game-winning goals with five.

Charlotte outshot the Bulls 17-9 and has now taken 15 or more shots in each of its past three matches. Niners goalkeeper Alex Svetanoff was tested only twice, making two saves to earn his second clean sheet of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

It was the Bulls who had control early on, taking four shots within the first 10 minutes of play and putting pressure on Charlotte.

The momentum stayed relatively even throughout the first half, with both teams seemingly creating opportunities, but miscues or strong defense prevented either team from taking the lead.

In the second half, Charlotte began to put more pressure on the Bulls’ defense and goalkeeper, taking seven shots between the 53rd and 63rd minutes. In the 63rd minute, the Niners found themselves with the best chance of the night. A foul in the box by USF allowed Charlotte to take a penalty kick, and the Niners chose leading goal scorer Mikey Raggett to take the shot.

Raggett’s (9) kick went in and gave Charlotte a 1-0 lead, with plenty of time remaining. Charlotte continued to try to expand the lead, but South Florida’s defense remained tough for the Niners to break down.

In the final 12 minutes, South Florida began pressing hard. The Bulls tested Charlotte’s defense and had a great opportunity in the 79th minute, but Charlotte goalkeeper Alex Svetanoff came up big on his Senior Day, making the save.

Charlotte went on to secure the 1-0 win and extend its winning streak to six games, its longest since 2018.
