“We talked about getting two guys inside and just getting pucks there and that’s what we did,” said Vancouver Giants Head Coach/GM Michael Dyck following Saturday’s 4-1 victory over the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds on home ice at Langley Events Centre.

It was their second win over Seattle in as many games, following Vancouver’s 6-3 win Friday in Kent.

Jakob Oreskovic scored twice and added an assist for the Giants, who also recorded goals by Ethan Armstrong and Mathis Preston.

All three stars of the game were Vancouver players: Oreskovic, Oliver Bryks, who made 25 saves on 26 shots, and Armstrong.

Brock England scored the lone goal for Seattle.

Armstrong opened the scoring for Vancouver just 67 seconds into the game.

Seattle scored midway through the first period, but with just 2.1 seconds left in the first period, the Giants re-took the lead when Oreskovic shovelled home a loose puck in front of the net.

“In the first period, both goals, we got pucks through and we had people at the net,” Dyck said.

The only goal of the second period came off the stick of Oreskovic, who one-timed a shot from the right circle past Sklenicka, after a good play from Sullivan Humeniuk to hold the puck inside the Seattle zone. Humeniuk’s primary assist was his first WHL point.

Preston scored the only goal of the third period.

“I thought we started well,” Dyk commented. “Obviously it was nice to strike quick. I liked our special teams better today than I did yesterday. I thought [yesterday] they got a lot of momentum on their power play and on their penalty kill, and I thought tonight we got some momentum from our specialty teams.”

Giants and Thunderbirds will meet for the third time in a row Tuesday night in Kent.
