After Jon Rahm quit LIV Golf, another PGA Tour winner is set to join the Spaniard on the outgoing list…
Jon Rahm’s departure will be the beginning an exodus at LIV Golf.
While Richard Bland and Cameron Tringale are the only players who have so far publicly committed to the post-Saudi version of the league, young Spaniard David Puig confirmed last week he would be following Rahm out of the exit door.
Players have until October 25 to decide if they want to sign up to LIV 2.0, a relaunched league of 10 events that would be majority-owned by the stars themselves with $300 million in backing from credit firm BC Partners.
But it now seems another of the league’s best players has also decided not to continue his LIV career. As first reported by Sports Business Journal‘s Josh Carpenter, Abraham Ancer is set to reject terms offered by LIV 2.0.
The Mexican, once ranked 11th in the world, has played on LIV since 2022 and won his only individual title in Hong Kong in 2024. He leaves the league having earned nearly $34m in prize money.
A year before joining the breakaway, Ancer won the FedEx St Jude Invitational on the PGA Tour. But he has since faded as a competitive force and has failed to play a major in the past two seasons.
Ancer is now set to attempt to rebuild his career on the DP World Tour. He is not a member of the tour, but as TG exclusively reported, Wentworth HQ is negotiating deals with departing LIV players over a guaranteed number of starts next season.
Ancer, therefore, is likely to play a number of DP World Tour tournaments on invites in 2027.
Joaquin Niemann, Ancer’s teammate on LIV’s Torque GC team, is also without status on the DP World Tour and could benefit from a similar agreement if he departs the league.
