Two men from Edmonton are facing charges for drug trafficking after police say they found them carrying what is suspected to be cocaine in downtown Yellowknife early Tuesday morning.

An RCMP news release said just before 2 a.m., officers came across the two men walking in the area of 52nd Avenue and 52nd Street.

The officers were talking with the pair, and asked them to identify themselves. RCMP said one of the men gave officers a fake name, and officers arrested and searched him.

Their search uncovered “suspected cocaine,” officers then arrested the second man and found the same substance on him too.

Police say they recovered a total of 225 grams of suspected cocaine and $3,455 in cash.

The two suspects, who are 22 and 34-years-old, are facing possession charges for the purpose of trafficking. One is also charged with resisting arrest.

RCMP said both have been released, and will appear in court on Nov. 3.
