St. Thomas is receiving nearly $20 million from Queen’s Park and Ottawa through a program that cuts development charges and aims to decrease housing costs.

Provided through the federal and provincial governments’ $8.8-billion development charge reduction program, the roughly $19.6 million was announced Thursday by Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Rob Flack alongside London West MP Arielle Kayabaga at the new Shaw Valley subdivision in the southwest end of St. Thomas.

Flack, who is Ontario’s municipal affairs and housing minister, called housing affordability a “crisis” in his remarks.
