People living and working in Mount Pearl in the area North of Topsail Road are asked to continue limiting their water use, as the city is still completing repairs at the pumphouse serving the area.
“City staff continue to monitor the situation at the Farrell Drive pumphouse. While operations have stabilized, pumps remain at limited capacity as work continues,” the City of Mount Pearl staff said in an update on social media Thursday afternoon.
According to the post, the situation has “stabilized,” but conservation by residents will help maintain water pressure in the system while the repair work continues.
The city first put out notice of the emergency order at about 5 p.m. Wednesday. A public notice stated efforts to address the problem were already underway.
The standing request asks people in the affected area to avoid watering their lawns, washing vehicles, using pressure washers or having any decorative fountains on for the time being.
“Residents are encouraged to conserve water wherever possible by taking shorter showers, running dishwashers and washing machines only when full, and repairing leaking faucets and toilets. Every reduction in water use will help maintain water service while repairs are underway,” the city stated in an earlier notice.
A complete list of affected streets is available on the City of Mount Pearl website.
