Former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has broken his silence after his MMA-trained son, Raja, appeared to assault a professional wrestler at an independent show in California on a live stream. Jackson, who boasted an MMA record of 37-12 and even fought and lost to UFC legend Jon Jones, took to social media to address his 25-year-old son’s incident at the wrestling event.
In the viral live stream, Rampage’s son, Raja, slammed independent wrestler Stuart Smith, ring name Syko Stu, to the mat before unloading more than 20 hard punches to his head. Wrestlers in and around the ring were hesitant to react at first, unsure as to whether it was a “work,” which means scripted or staged.
However, the more Raja teed off with punches, the more concerns grew, and he was eventually grappled away by other independent wrestlers. One even launched a headbutt at Rampage’s son as he was held against the turnbuckle. What sparked the in-ring frenzy may have been an earlier incident between Raja and Syko Stu before the show.
Syko Stu, a U.S. veteran, who says he took up professional wrestling to integrate back into civilian life, attempted a “work” by smashing a canned drink against Raja’s head. Syko Stu later apologized to Raja in another clip, expressing that it was a “work” and realizing that the MMA-trained son of Rampage was not a pro wrestler.
Nonetheless, when Raja’s time to get into the ring came, he didn’t pull his punches, leading to an ugly fallout. His father, an MMA legend, has taken to social media to address the situation, refusing to condone his son’s actions.
His statement read: “I want to clear up the misinformation about my son Raja. I’ve been confirmed that the wrestler (Stewart Smith aka Syko Stu) is awake and stable.”
“Raja was unexpectedly hit in the side of the head by him moments before Smith’s match, Raja was told that he could get his “payback” in the ring, I thought it was apart of the show,” he continued.
“It was bad judgement, and a work that went wrong. Raja is a MMA fighter not a pro wrestler and had no business involved in an event like this.
DON’T MISS
“I don’t condone my son’s actions AT ALL! He suffered a concussion from sparring only days ago and had no business doing anything remotely close to physical contact. As a father, im deeply concerned with his health AND the well being of Mr. Smith.”
He added: “That being said I’m very upset that any of this happened, but my main concern now is that Mr. Smith will make a speedy recovery. I apologize on his behalf and to KICK for the situation.”
