The Road Runner. The Flash. Dash from The Incredibles.

Those would be fast friends.

The Vancouver Public Library is not holding an event for them. If they show, that’s great, but the upcoming speed-friending event at the library isn’t for the fastest runners.

It’s for folks new to Vancouver who may be finding it difficult to make friends in the city. Which may not surprise locals, given the standoffish reputation Vancouver has.

“We’re here to help! Bring your favourite book, e-book, graphic novel, DVD, podcast, blog or zine to discuss at this fun, casual, in-person event at Central Library,” reads an event listing on the library’s website.

With chosen media in hand (be it book, zine or DVD), people will have six minutes per person to chat about the items both of you brought. If you hit it off, there’s a fast friend. If it doesn’t work out, no worries, and continue on with your evening.

The event will run two hours, and has a maximum capacity of 100 people.
