Dubois beats Wardley by stoppage

Fabio Wardley, speaking to DAZN: “It’s never fun to lose, but it is what it is. The game is the game. I have always thrown myself in with the best competitors out there, the best in the business, the biggest, hardest, meanest guys around so, there is no shame in a loss when you’re testing yourself against the best.

On Daniel Dubois: “Daniel is the testament to coming up short and coming again, and I’ll be looking to do the exact same thing.”

On the first knockdown in the fight: “Look, you come away, you play with a game plan, you try to adjust some things but it just didn’t work for me tonight. It didn’t click in the same way, and that is down to me. And it’s only a nod and a credit to Daniel for how well he prepared. Boxing is a game of fine margins; it can be done in a round or two, or it can go into a big ole war like last time.”

If the fight came too soon: “No, not in the slightest. I just came in and I didn’t execute the game plan properly. I hold my hands up to that; that is entirely down to me. When I step through the ropes, it is only myself. It’s only me bouncing down in the ring, there’s no blame to be passed around. When I win, it’s all me as well. There’s no shame in losing to a great competitor like Daniel.

A message to fans: “Thank you to everyone who turned out. A sold out 02. A little white-collar boy like me could never have dreamed like this. And thank you to Daniel and his team for two great fights. It wasn’t my night, but I’ll come back stronger.”
