Mood shifting at Vancouver watch parties

Vancouver Greens mayoral candidate reacts to strong lead over Ken Sim
Vancouver mayoral candidate Pete Fry speaks to the CBC’s Meera Bains at the Vancouver Greens watch party. He has a more-than-10,000 vote lead over incumbent Mayor Ken Sim.
Preliminary results are showing that Vancouver Green Party mayoral candidate Pete Fry has a healthy lead over incumbent mayor Ken Sim of ABC Vancouver.
The vibe at the Wall Centre ballroom changed quickly, and the crowd supporting Sim quieted as the results came in.
At the East Vancouver pub where Fry is gathering with supporters, the atmosphere is far more positive and upbeat. Fry said it’s still early, but a lot of the excitement he generated was due to a positive campaign and not succumbing to negativity and attack ads.
“Just focusing on how we want to make the city better, and how we want to work together … and that means dealing with things like affordability and the quality of life issues that a lot of Vancouverites are worried about, especially the issue of public safety,” he said.
If he is elected mayor, he said he would be “cheerleader in chief,” and wants to cultivate a council without partisan politics that works together.
“We live in an amazing city, let’s feel good about it, let’s figure out how we’re going to solve some of those problems together — let’s not dwell on the negativity,” he said.
