On Friday, Manitoba Public Health declared the measles outbreak in the province over.
Since February 2025, Manitoba has had 1,038 reported measles cases (931 confirmed and 107 probable cases).
There were 52 measles-related hospitalizations, including six intensive care unit admissions, in Manitoba during the outbreak, the provincial government said.
Eighty-seven per cent of Manitoba’s measles cases during the outbreak involved people who were either not vaccinated against the disease or had an unknown immunization status, according to the province.
Prior to 2025, the last case of measles in Manitoba was in 2019 and associated with travel.
In Canada, a large multijurisdictional measles outbreak began in October 2024 in New Brunswick. Subsequently, measles spread to other provinces, including Manitoba in 2025. The outbreak persisted for over 12 months, primarily within under-vaccinated communities, and Canada subsequently lost its Measles Elimination Status.
