The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 63-year-old man Oct. 17 in the Sudbury area.
The OPP said that shortly after noon, the Nipissing West OPP responded to a call for service at a residence on Noland Road in Hagar.
The man, who was in distress, had fled the home in a vehicle and was located near Highways 69 and 637, on Murdock River Road (that’s near the Killarney turnoff).
“Officers stopped the vehicle,” said a press release from the SIU. “He was found inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
“The OPP notified the SIU, which invoked its mandate,” said provincial police. “As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide further information.”
Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php.
