Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the $1,999 iPhone Duo, sold out shortly after pre-orders opened on October 16, with delivery estimates pushed back and walk-in purchases unlikely to be available at launch.
Apple’s US online store showed delivery dates of January 25, 2027 across configurations within about 30 minutes of pre-orders opening, according to MacRumors. The device also sold out quickly in China, where launch-day collection and home-delivery slots became unavailable, the World Journal reported.
The iPhone Duo is scheduled to launch on October 23. However, some Apple Store employees have reportedly been instructed to warn customers that walk-in purchases may not be possible on launch day, according to MacRumors.
In a recent statement, Apple described demand for its first foldable smartphone as “nothing short of extraordinary” after pre-orders sold out, with delivery estimates extending into 2027.
According to a Yahoo Finance analysis, limited initial supply, rather than demand alone, may explain the iPhone Duo’s rapid sell-out.
