Police are asking anyone who was aboard either of the two buses involved in last week’s fatal crash and explosion in northeast Calgary to come forward as they continue to piece together what happened.

Calgary police say several passengers may have left the scene on Thursday afternoon before speaking with investigators.

“It is imperative that we talk to everyone who may have information that could progress our investigation,” said CPS Staff Sgt. Andy Woodward in a statement. “We believe that several passengers likely left the scene following the collision without knowing that investigators would like to hear their witness accounts.”

Emergency crews were called to Saddletowne Circle near 80 Avenue NE around 1:10 p.m. on Thursday following reports of a vehicle fire involving a Calgary Transit bus.

According to police, a transit bus collided with several vehicles, including another Calgary Transit bus that was stopped to pick up passengers.

The natural gas tanks on the stopped bus later caught fire and exploded, causing the vehicle to become engulfed in flames. Investigators believe 13 people were aboard that bus at the time of the collision.

Three people on board that bus died, and several other people were taken to hospital following the crash.

Police are now urging anyone who was a passenger on either of the involved buses, and who has not yet spoken with investigators, to contact the CPS Traffic Section at 403-428-4000 or the non-emergency line at 403-266-1234.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
